05a – Aladdin Part 1

The story of Aladdin is one of the most familiar narratives in all of literature, a classic ‘rags to riches’ tale featuring a young hero who has to learn an important lesson; an exotic setting; a good healthy dose of magic; a beautiful heroine; and an evil villain (or two, depending on which version of the story you follow). In this episode I’ll discuss the differences between Disney’s “Aladdin” and “Aladdin or His Magical Lamp” as told by Queen Scheherazade in the original “One Thousand and One Nights”, telling each story side by side.

“Cave of Wonders Improv”

  1. Loved it. One of the best episodes so far. Amazing to find out that jafar was once a good guy – kinda weird. Thanks 🙂

  2. Loved that these get better and better. Great insight, awesome song choices, and a superb host. Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie so I’ve been waiting for this one and you didn’t disappoint. Plus it’s going to be a two parter, yay! I’ve listened to this one episode three times already. Keep up the great work!

  3. Just listened to your outtakes and love you cave of wonders improv, always love when your DLRage side comes out. Keep up the great work, I being a lover of history these always make my work day or week go by faster( since it seems like I’m on my 50th relisten, they never get old). Thank you and I look forward to the next Aladdin and what ever story you plan to do next.

  4. Excellent podcast! I’m a huge fan of this series, and the Aladdin segment was particularly captivating. Any chance you could provide me the name of the Italian story you mention at the start of the podcast?
